Shallow Water Fishing Tips

I am not an expert but what I have learned in my shallow water fishing experiences are:

  1. When you are using a crankbait use a square billed one. The reason for that is because it bounces off rocks and other obstacles.
  2. Sometimes the weeds and other annoying junk are on the bottom of the shallow lake. When reeling in lift you pole higher than you usually do to prevent catching the weeds. (duh)
  3. Another problem with lakes that are shallow are the floating green slop. No need to give up and wait for it to clear! What I do is I get a long stick and put a hanger or a hook shaped object to clear a path just for you to reel in.
  4. If the lake has a sandy bottom use a crankbait that digs into the ground to attract fish.
  5. If the lake is murky use bright lures like red, yellow, orange, and green.
  6. When jigging in shallow water use the Texas Style rigging to use the weeds to your advantage. Try to pull the jig in to you so the lure goes straight across.
